Goodbye, Jalan-Jalan and Melaka

img_2978After having some pretty great breakfast in Melaka this morning, Molly, Monti and me said goodbye to Vitalis and went to the Melaka Central bus station. I got on my bus to Penang at 10:30 and they were gonna catch theirs to Singapore at 11am. At the first bathroom stop we made, I already had my first adventure of the day. When I stepped outside the restrooms, the bus wasn’t in its parking spot anymore. It was gone. With my backpack and my guitar. The stop was supposed to be 10 minutes long but it had only been 7 min! I almost died of a heart attack …

Before I could get deeper into feeling helpless and miserable though about losing all my belongings and missing my ride to Penang I saw the bus a couple of hundred feet down the parking lot. Luckily it had only moved a little and was stuck behind some other buses. Also I think the other two European couples kinda had an eye on me and told the driver to wait, which was really nice. That’s one thing I really love about backpacking: you don’t know each other but you still kinda look out for and help each other!
After a little less than 3 hours we reached Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, some people got off some got on and the journey continued.

It’s 5pm now and after 2 more stops we got to Ipoh, another bigger city. I think it should be another hour or so to get to Penang. I just hope time goes by fast … I’m not really feeling this bus anymore. It also turns out that 7 hours are more like 8 1/2.. but I just met some really nice old ladies from Penang on the bus that will help me find my hostel.
We’re on the ferry to Georgetown, Penang right now and although I only understand half of what that lady is telling me I think she’s giving me advice on where to go and how to find my hostel and she literally sat me down in the right bus and gave me her telephone number in case I needed any help – people here are just so nice!
And that one guy on the ferry saw my guitar and asked me if I could play a song for him and his friend so I played little talks (#thinkingofyoulukas!) and some people even recorded me singing!
