Last night, we sat by the campfire again and one guy from Malaysia owed me a drink, if I would play a song on the guitar for him, so I did. I would’ve probably taken the drink, if my stomach wouldn’t have been acting all weird today. So a bottle of water it is.It still saved me 2RM, since I needed water for the bus ride, anyway. I’m not actually paying my way through this journey with my guitar but a little water/drink here and there is still pretty nice. I headed to bed pretty early, since my bus was supposed to leave early in the morning at 8:30am. It was a nice farewell night in Tanah Rata!
Cameron Highlands has beautiful landscapes and great hiking and climbing paths. However, they are harder to find than you would think. Once your on track though, it’s a lot of fun to explore the woods and the jungle and in my opinion it’s totally worth it to book at least a half day tour, since you get to see more and you also get more information about everything you do and see. Also, chances are good that you’ll be in a fun little group of people during your tour. You could probably spend weeks here to go on every single hiking trail but I think 2 days is enough to get a good impression and take some amazing photos of the view.
One should be prepared for the slightly cooler weather (which I wasn’t): even during the day you can wear long sleeved clothes and you won’t be too warm. At night temperatures drop down to 19 degrees Celsius which actually feels colder than it might sound now. That’s why it was especially great to have the camp fire at my hostel where I met some really cool people that I’m still traveling with now. Chances that this happens are pretty big I think since Cameron highlands is probably just a couple of days stop over for most people before going to KL. If I wouldn’t have been that cold at night I would’ve probably liked it more but it was still good to see the tea plantations and the mossy forest and all that – so over all it was a nice little nature break from the hot city/town life.
Now we’re about to reach KL after a 4 hour bus ride on a once again really nice and comfy bus. I even got to sleep a little which was nice, since I woke up at 4:20am this morning because I was cold and basically just waited for it to be 7am, so I could take a warm shower and get ready to leave. I’m so excited for a nice bed and a good night of sleep here in KL.
