The funny story of my journey from the bus station to the hostel:
I got dropped off at the bus station outside of Chiang Rai by the minivan driver and looked for a taxi to the big butter hostel where I had booked a dorm room for the night. After the usual negotiation I got the price down to a reasonable amount and made myself comfortable in the little three wheeler scooter cart. I had the feeling though that the tuktuk driver didn’t know where he was going so I looked up directions to my hostel on that app I have that works without wifi. After he went all the way up north in Chiang Rai I told him he had to go back down in order to get to my hostel. He was a little confused but I told him where to go and he followed my directions without any complains. When we ended up in the middle of nowhere after a 20min ride I wasn’t so sure about the app and the location of the hostel it gave me anymore. So I showed my tuktuk driver friend the actual street name and since he didn’t know where it was he finally called the hostel. After a little chat with the lady from the reception he smiled and seemed like he had figured out where to go. I got the impression though that he was just a little annoyed and I should soon find out why. Another 10 minutes later we reached our destination and it turned out we were right where he was going to take me in the very beginning. Ooooops.. Well I guess nobody’s flawless and that tuktuk driver taught me that you should probably trust your taxi driver every once in a while because sometimes they actually know where they’re going – lesson learned.
