For all the brunch and coffee lovers like me out there, coming to Buenos Aires will most definitely fulfil your caffeine and sweet-tooth needs. A basic café con leche can be found every 50m, but even if you’re in for a more advanced breakfast, brunch, frappuchino, cake or high tea, you won’t have to look for long. Palermo offers just as many cafes and breakfast places as bars and clubs, and we made it our personal mission to discover each and every single one of them, in order to find our favourites and return as many times as possible. Yes, we did have a brunch almost every Sunday for the past 3 months – do not judge us… in the end, no job’s too hard to be of service to my dear blog readers.
For your first time in one of the many beautiful cafes of the city, here’s a little guide on how to order the coffee that suits you best:
Café con leche – 50/50 milk and coffee
Cortado – coffee with a little milk
Lágrima – 3/4 milk 1/4 coffee
Harrito – 1/4 milk 3/4 coffee
ADORADO COFFEE SAN TELMO
Sweet little café, close to the San Telmo market. Enjoy the promo: café con leche + muffin for $80 pesos.
BIRKIN CAFE
A couple of blocks away from the metro station Ministro de Carranza and a perfect spot for a girls brunch on a warm Sunday. There are three different brunch menu options for $275 pesos each and the banana or Nutella pancakes are to die for. The iced coffee is a nice way to cool down on a hot day.
CASA MUNAY
Definitely one of my favourites and most visited. The restaurant offers various delicious vegetarian lunch options, as well as cakes and coffee and the staff is super friendly. There’s also always a “menú del día” for around $170 pesos. Closed on Sundays.
COCU
The little French Boulangerie & Bakery is perfect if you’re craving a sweet and chocolaty Pain au Chocolat. Tasting the freshly baked goods takes your taste buds right to Paris.
COFFEE TOWN
Coffee Town has various locations around the city and specialises in exquisite coffee beans from the most renowned coffee origins in the world.
DATRI CAFE
Small café one block away from Avenida 9 de Julio. Great coffee and delicious cakes and brownies.
FULL CITY COFFEE HOUSE
Enjoy your coffee or homemade lemonade in the afternoon sun on the rooftop terrace of the café in the heart of Palermo.
LAB CAFE
Great low-priced Cappuccino for $50 pesos and a delicious selection of cakes.
LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN
Various sweet and savoury breakfast and lunch options, with a focus on their home-baked bread. Everything is very delicious, though a bit pricy. Amazing detox-energy smoothies!
MEMÉ MIMÍ
The restaurant, which belongs to a hotel, has 4 different lunch options every day for $190 pesos, incl. a drink and coffee or desert. If the risotto is on the menu, you can’t go wrong with that.
NININA
Come to Ninina for the most fluffy pancakes covered in fresh fruit that you’ll ever taste! Cappuccino for $75 pesos.
OUI OUI
Don’t get confused about the two Oui Oui’s right across the street from each other – both offer more or less the same options. Ask for the “menú del día”, and if it doesn’t convince you, go for the waffles with Nutella & Dulce de leche.
TIPO 7
Tipo7 quickly advanced to our favourite breakfast spot: the “Natural” breakfast option for $150 pesos includes yoghurt with granola & frozen berries, fruit salad, toast with cream cheese & honey, a piece of cake and a coffee. And, if one day, you feel extra adventurous, you should try the “Torta de Crema de Oreo” – just be warned: this heavenly slice is one to share.
