Looking for crystal clear water, empty beaches, and a calm place where one can only walk or cycle around? Then Ile de Porquerolles is most definitely the right address. Visiting for a day at the end of September, we had the island almost to ourselves, exploring the viewpoint at the north-eastern tip by bike, resting on Plage de Notre Dame, listening to the waves while the only other people were a good 10-minute walk further down the shore. If it wouldn’t have been for the last ferry at 6:20pm back to the mainland, we would’ve probably forgotten all about the time and stayed here forever.

Let’s skip the introduction of how where and when – this will follow in my next post – and get right to it: Chicago is such an amazing city and there couldn’t have been a better way to start our 3 weeks in the States.
With winter temperatures creeping up on us and Christmas – with all its hustling and gift-shopping – just around the corner, who wouldn’t want to escape onto the island and into the sun for just a little while. For my mom and I, this opportunity presented itself when my host sister from my high school exchange in Texas announced her wedding to take place on Bali. Not thinking twice about the 16-hour-long trip from Frankfurt to Denpasar, we booked our tickets via Singapore and found ourselves swimming in the ocean and wearing flip-flops in 30 degrees Celsius in mid-November.

One of the largest waterfall systems in the world, and probably also one of the most impressive ones, visiting the Iguazú Falls is an incredible and unforgettable experience. Seeing those ridiculous amounts of water gushing down into the depth of the waterfalls is something truly overwhelming, and the beauty of the panoramic view over the more than 20 falls is unequaled. Although some might have their preference for either of the two sides, in my opinion, each one has its own perks, and both of them are definitely worth visiting.
