Luang Prabang has a lot to offer: great street & food markets, a view point high above the city, the Kuang Si Waterfalls, countless tours to go on, some nice bars for a pretty decent night life & even a public swimming pool! Make sure to stop here on your way south.
Mekong River during dry season & some impressions from Luang Prabang – definitely a stop worth doing when travelling through Lao:
Amazing vegetarian buffet at the Luang Prabang night market, which is one of the best I’ve seen so far, by the way. For 15.000Kip (about 1,60€) you can load up your bowl with delicious Laotian vegetable dishes! And that’s what we did every night. They also make the best sandwiches in the whole world here in Lao – I’m serous. Breakfast is also pretty decent. Sorry not sorry.
Utopia, best bar in Luang Prabang – “zen by day, groovy by night”, followed by a relaxing massage and day by the pool (@La Pistoche – Swimming Pool & Bar):
The Kuang Si Waterfalls are about 30 minutes outside of Luang Prabang and I went there with Nadia and Martina, my two German roommates. The Tuk Tuk took 40 minutes to get us there but once we arrived we were amazed by the beautiful waterfall (I’ve seen quite a few by now so it gets harder to be impressed but this one sure got my attention). The water was so clear and turquoise – nature at its best. We climbed all the way to the top and found kind of a hidden path with natural steps in the rock wall, down to another pool of the waterfall. It did say “no swimming area” but everybody jumped in anyway and the view was amazing. You could look over the rim, straight down the waterfall. Needless to say that we had a 20-minute photo shoot in that stunning scenery. Pictures will be up soon.
I want the other half sandwich!
