Bienvenido a Peru

IMG_9089It’s almost 7:30pm here in Cuzco, Peru, which means that I’ve been up for 37 hours with about 3 to 4 hours of naps in between – and that’s exactly how I feel right now. Don’t get me wrong: I’m super happy! New continent, new country, new people, new adventures.. all the things that make my little backpacker heart beat faster. I’m just also really tired and exhausted and that’s why this is just gonna be a quick update on how I’m doing here down south:

  1. I caught all my flights, despite many sweat-causing delays (luckily all my flights were late, so it equalled out in the end)
  2. I didn’t get arrested at customs in Houston for not declaring the pear in my bag
  3. I arrived safely in Peru
  4. I still got my residence permit, although I confused the Spanish word for weeks with that for months and thereby extended my visit accidentally by a couple of months
  5. my backpack didn’t get lost
  6. met nice backpackers at the airport to share a taxi with
  7. didn’t die in that taxi on the way to the hostel
  8. didn’t freeze to death while waiting for my dorm bed in the open courtyard of the hostel with 1 degree celsius outside temperature (I know that I should’ve known this beforehand, and actually I did, but for some reason I still didn’t expect it to be THAT cold)
  9. took an at least 30 minute hot shower to defrost my body
  10. had the freshest and most amazing Peruvian mango ice-cream that’s ever been tasted by mankind
  11. survived the first day at 3400m altitude
  12. and already found my first favourite spot in Cuzco (see strawberry-shake picture)

To wrap it up: Life is great – weather could be warmer

I’ll keep you posted once I awake from my sleeping-beauty-sleep into which I will fall immediately after pressing the ‘upload blog entry’-button… Zzzzzzz
