People told me that KL was dangerous, they told me I’d get robbed, they told me I shouldn’t spend more time than needed in this city. I ended up staying 5 nights at the best hostel so far, met some of the coolest people so far and most definitely had the best time of my journey so far! I really fell in love with KL. Thaipusam Festival 2015
What we experienced today was probably a once-in-a-lifetime kinda thing and I don’t think anything I write would even get close to reality, so I hope the pictures speak for themselves and the information further down gives y’all an idea of what was going on. Let me just say that my jaw was dropped most of the time, out of astonishment, fear, amazement, confusion. I just felt overwhelmed – like all the others from our group – and extremely privileged to be there and whiteness something so unique and special that gave us a deep insight into these people’s religion and traditions.
Walking Kuala Lumpur
I started out this day with some fresh mango and orange for breakfast and then headed to the Thai embassy to get a visa for Thailand. I walked for 1:15h all the way through KL cuz I kinda wanted to save some money and get a little workout done. It was really hot but I got to see a lot of KL. Continue reading
Malaysian Food Impressions
In Malaysia, “Rojak” simply means everything mixed together so this was mixed fruit and vegetables with some kinda sauce and crushed nuts on top. The sauce consists of soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, chili paste, water, seeds, caramel and lots of other stuff. So the whole thing tastes sweet, a little savory and also spicy – interesting combination, not my favorite but not too bad either.
Mossy Forest, Jungle Walks and some Strawberries
Last night, we sat by the campfire again and one guy from Malaysia owed me a drink, if I would play a song on the guitar for him, so I did. I would’ve probably taken the drink, if my stomach wouldn’t have been acting all weird today. So a bottle of water it is. Continue reading
Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
Got to Cameron Highlands today at 2pm per bus where I met Roel from Holland who was also staying at the House of Journey in Penang. The 6 hour bus ride was actually not bad at all and the bus was really nice again (gotta enjoy that before I’m getting to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam). Once we got her and checked into our hostels, we went on a little 2-hour hike in the forest/jungle. We didn’t really know where we were going and we kinda expected something totally different… Continue reading
Langkawi – my time on the island
Langkawi is a beautiful island with amazing beaches and just a good place to hang out an relax. You can’t really party here, there’s not a big variety of hostels you can stay at and it’s kinda hard to meet people but if you’re already with somebody it’s just great to have a look around and chill on one of the gorgeous beaches. Continue reading
Penang to Langkawi – the journey continues
This morning, I took the ferry from Penang to Langkawi which took about 3 hours. On the ferry, I met Franzi from southern Germany and we decided to spend our time here on the island together. We booked two beds in the same dormitory and spent most of the day at the beach and in the water – 33 degrees Celsius you guys!

Life is better at…
So today I slept in late since I needed to get some rest after last night. After taking a shower and getting ready, I went walking around town, looking at shops and hawkers and some of the sights in Georgetown and I got some banana juice and fresh mango for breakfast aka lunch. Continue reading
Hello Georgetown, Penang!
I found the hostel pretty easily after that nice lady had helped me a lot and once again, I got really lucky with my accommodation! The house of journey is just around the corner from a street food market, Main Street, the street art district and some cool bars and hostels. Continue reading
